The British Consulate-General in Guangzhou represents the United Kingdom across southern China. Our main roles include: developing trade and investment opportunities for the UK and promoting bilateral co-operation between the British government and the provincial governments of southern China, on issues such as climate change, tackling international crime and education. We are committed to providing the highest quality service to British Citizens and to Chinese nationals wishing to visit, study and do business in the UK.


Job Description


This job offers the successful candidate an excellent opportunity to develop their communicating and influencing skills, manage high profile events and visits, set out a strategic direction for Posts’ public diplomacy engagement and gain an understanding of the breadth of the BCG’s work. It also includes an important staff management element.


Your main responsibilities will include:


-         Leading the China network communications strategy and events planning on illegal migration issues, and deputising on visa and internal communications


-         Crafting and monitoring Posts’ public diplomacy strategy, arranging events and activities for the Consul General and cross-consulate teams in support of their communication objectives


-         Managing and expanding Posts’ network of media contacts, while increasing the UK’s profile across the South China region


-         Organising and supporting high level visits between South China and the UK


-         Managing our LEIV e-media assistant, and supporting their work on digital diplomacy, media monitoring and social media engagement

Essential


-         Highly motivated individual capable of handling a demanding portfolio of activity, showing energy and flexibility in responding to the needs of this dynamic and challenging area of work


-         Has the ability to work in a team, and across-teams, and to develop and manage relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders


-         Strategic vision, and an understanding of how to use communication tools to support policy objectives


-         Working knowledge of the South China media and current political, economic and social affairs


-         Good communication, networking and personal management skills


Desired


-         Understanding of new media, in particular blogging and social media sites


-         Operational contacts and networks in the media field


-         Excellent language ability in English, Mandarin and Cantonese


-          Good IT skills

Key Terms and Conditions of Service


We offer a competitive package with starting gross salary of RMB 9330.00 paid monthly in arrears, and with excellent development opportunities and 22 day annual leave entitlement.
